Attempted a Nori roll recipe from the Crazy Sexy Diet book. Not so delicious. I thought it was edible, and ate most of mine, though reluctantly. It was ok dipped heavily in tamari-ginger sauce. My husband and daughter couldn’t force it, so he got up and made them spaghetti and meatballs.
There’s carrots, cucumber, avocado, and brown rice inside. But what seemed weird (and ultimately tasted weird to us) was the tahini. You were supposed to spread a layer over the rice. I didn’t get how that was going to work, so I just mixed mine with the rice to make it sticky. The nutty flavor made it seem very Thai, but didn’t go well with something- maybe the flavor of the nori (seaweed). Maybe we’re sushi snobs. I don’t know. Will NOT be making this one again.
But it looks so pretty! Maybe you can substitute the tahini for something that works better, like a fruit paste (apricot?) or a different nutty taste (peanut butter, perhaps)? Just a thought, because your rolls really to look delicious!
They look a lot better than they taste! I think it would’ve been fine with just plain, sticky, sushi rice. I may try it again with some adjustments.
